Matt Barkley Scouting Report

Quarterback - 6,3 225 - USC - Jr.

Barkley is an elite level prospect who has all the tools to be a very good NFL quarterback. He is strong, athletic, intelligent and confident and he can make all the throws. As a leader on the USC Trojans he is used to being in the spot light and should be very NFL ready, much the way Matt Sanchez came to the NFL ready to play.

Pros

Good size for the position and excellent strength.  Barkley has good feet and mobility in the pocket and while he is certainly not a "running quarterback" he can scramble enough to keep the defense honest. Plays with a ton of confidence and is a true leader on the field. Accurate passer who continues to raise his completion percentage. Handles pressure well and is a tough, hard-nosed QB.

Cons

Still throws too many interceptions and takes too many sacks. Needs to get better at throwing the ball away and cutting out the little mental mistakes.

Draft Potential

Likely to be a top 5 pick either as a junior or senior.
